Both Peter Navaro and Steve Bannon face contempt of congress charges for not appearing before the January 6th select committee. Both of them cited a reason that the committee contested but which is a legitimate reason, namely presidential immunity. Both said that if their claim of presidential immunity was legally contested and the courts ordered them, they would come in and speak but until that happened they did not think they needed to. For that, the pretend bipartisan unjust committee is holding them both in contempt of court and wanting them to spend months if not years in prison. The DOJ is currently seeking six months and $200k fine for Peter Navarro.
Peter spoke briefly, and was shouted down by a bunch of fascists with whistles who believe the big lie. It’s obnoxious to share a twitter link from a page called republicans against Trump, as this editorial board supports President Trump Fully, but it’s important to see the fascists for what they are:
To be fair, the gentleman holding the sign to Peter’s left does defend his right to speak over one of the protesters who keeps blowing a whistle trying to cover up anything Navarro can say in this short cspan press conference.
This is a particularly egregious thing, since Hunter Biden recently was subpoenaed by congress and also refused to show up, but without any form of presidential immunity.
This is similar to the purported documents violations that led to the raid of President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago; Trump – as president and the executive office being embodied in him – could declassify any and all documents he chose to declassify simply by wanting them declassified. Nevertheless this led to some sort of a dispute over his possession of documents that weren’t even originals that led to the raid.
Meanwhile vice president Joe Biden kept similar documents in a box next to his corvette that his son had access to, as well as at the multimillion dollar, Chinese funded Penn State center.
Got raided, and one of them didn’t.
